De Waterkant is the small, colourful quarter between the city centre, Green Point and Bo-Kaap, and it has been home to Dixie Jane since we opened. Here is how we would spend a day here, and how to visit a cannabis club like ours for the first time.
Why De Waterkant is worth a wander
Waterkant means waterside: this was once the edge of the harbour, before the land in front of it was reclaimed.
Today it is a handful of steep, cobbled streets lined with brightly painted cottages, many of them restored as homes, guesthouses and small shops. It is one of the oldest parts of the city, the heart of Cape Town’s LGBTQ+ scene, and one of the easiest places to base yourself: the City Bowl, Green Point, Bo-Kaap and the V&A Waterfront are all within walking distance.
How we would spend a day in De Waterkant
Morning: coffee and cobbles
Start with coffee and something from the pastry counter, then wander the side streets while the light is soft. Every corner is a photo.
Our caféAfternoon: shops and Bo-Kaap
Browse the Cape Quarter and the boutiques around it, then walk up to Bo-Kaap for the famous colourful houses and the view back over the city.
Bo-KaapEvening: sundowners
Happy hour at our café runs from 3 to 6pm, with wine, beer and coffee. Then dinner nearby, or an order delivered to where you are staying.
